FIFA, the global governing body for the sport of football, officially confirmed on Thursday that the men’s 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will begin one day earlier than it was originally scheduled. This will allow the host nation, Qatar, to play the first game of the tournament, which will be against Ecuador.
As a result of a decision made by the Bureau of the FIFA Council that was reached unanimously, the competition will now start on November 20 instead of November 21, which was when three games were originally scheduled, with Senegal’s match against the Netherlands having been scheduled to open the competition.
According to a statement released by FIFA, “The FIFA World Cup 2022 will kick off with an even greater celebration for both local and international fans.” This is because the match between the host nation, Qatar, and Ecuador will now take place on Sunday, November 20 at 19:00 as part of a stand-alone event.
The decision will maintain “the continuity of a long-standing tradition” in which the opening match of a World Cup involves either the hosts or the reigning champions. This will happen because the decision will keep “a long-standing tradition going.”
According to the statement, this decision was made “after analysing the competitive and operational effects and consulting with key stakeholders and the host nation in depth.”
The new date for the beginning of the Qatar World Cup is November 20.
As a direct result of this decision, the soccer match that would pit Senegal against the Netherlands will now take place in the evening on November 21, rather than during the day. On the other hand, the length of time during which gamers will be able to access the game will not be altered and will begin on November 14.
Also, FIFA said that “ticket holders will be promptly notified by email that the relevant matches have been moved and that their tickets will still be valid regardless of the new date/time.”
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy of the Qatar 2022 World Cup said in a statement on Friday that the decision has the support of the host country, Qatar.
“FIFA conducted research to see how this move would affect the supporters. “We will cooperate with one another to make sure that the event runs well for the fans who will be impacted by the adjustment,” it stated.
“Qatar is prepared for the event with 100 days to go. We can’t wait to show everyone a good time at this year’s FIFA World Cup, which promises to be one for the record books. ”
